REMspace’s groundbreaking achievement: for the first time ever, people have communicated inside a dream. Read the article:
Many of us have seen Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie Inception. While watching, you might have wondered: what if it were possible to actually enter someone else’s dream? Could someone ever intrude upon our dreams while we are sleeping?
California-based start-up REMspace has made history by unlocking the potential for a new kind of communication through lucid dreaming. What once seemed unimaginable, only possible in movies, has now become reality. Using specially designed equipment, two participants entered their dreams and successfully exchanged simple messages.
But what exactly is a lucid dream? A lucid dream is a state in which you realize you are dreaming while still inside the dream. This phenomenon typically occurs during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and opens up many possibilities—from addressing certain mental and physical issues to learning new skills. In previous research, REMspace demonstrated that it’s possible to detect specific words spoken in dreams using facial electromyography (EMG) sensors. Building on this, they developed “Remmyo”, a “dream language” that can be detected with special sensors.
On September 24th, 2024, as participants slept in their own homes, their brainwaves and other sleep data were remotely tracked. When the first participant entered a lucid dream, the server sent them a random Remmyo word through an earbud. The participant then spoke that word within the dream, and their response was recorded on the server. Eight minutes later, when the second participant entered a lucid dream, they received the message sent by the first participant and confirmed it after waking up. In this way, information exchange through dreams became possible for the very first time.
Additionally, both participants were able to communicate directly with the server while dreaming.
REMspace founder and CEO Michael Raduga shared his thoughts on this achievement: “What seemed like fiction yesterday is now reality. And tomorrow, it will become so commonplace that we won’t even be able to imagine life without it. This technology will create new commercial opportunities and completely transform the way we communicate in the world of dreams. That is why we believe REM sleep and lucid dreaming will become the next major industry after artificial intelligence (AI).”
This success is the result of five years of intensive research and technological development. Since making this breakthrough on September 24th, the REMspace team has continued refining their technology and has achieved even better results in each new trial. Their next goal is to enable real-time dream communication, though this poses an even more complex challenge. Nevertheless, REMspace researchers are confident they will reach this goal within a few months.
REMspace is a neurotechnology company specializing in sleep improvement and lucid dream research. The company offers innovative technology, such as smart sleeping masks and a unique social platform for sharing dream journals. Previous research by REMspace has proven that it’s possible to transmit words and melodies directly from dreams, and even control virtual cyber trucks or smart homes while asleep.
This groundbreaking discovery is taking our dream world beyond the realm of imagination and making it reality. Where dreams used to be purely personal experiences, they are now becoming a new medium for communication. REMspace has shown that by breaking down the wall between sleep and reality, we are now on the threshold of a future where sharing thoughts, messages, and possibilities through dreams will be part of our daily lives. Now there is only one question—what will you say in your dreams?
