The changes that may come in tomorrow’s technology have already begun. The demand for desktop computers is declining. Instead, computing on notebooks, laptops, and smartphones is becoming increasingly popular., Cloud-based computing has already been introduced to the web. In the coming days, cloud computing is set to become even more widespread. Various tech companies are continuing their activities in this sector.

The Triumph of Cloud Computing
The concept of cloud-based computing was first glimpsed in 1960, when John McCarthy suggested, “Computation may someday be organized as a public utility.” However, the foundation for this concept was truly established around the 1990s. Amazon began its utility computing-based web services in 2005. In 2007, Google and IBM jointly started research projects with several universities on cloud computing, and by mid-2008 this initiative reached a new stage. The infrastructure for cloud computing was developed around 2009. Since then, major IT companies worldwide started accelerating their focus on cloud computing. According to a survey, any organization can reduce its IT budget by nearly 18 percent through this technology. Additionally, data centers have managed to cut their expenses by about 16 percent thanks to the expansion of this technology. Therefore, cloud computing has significant advantages. This technology, with its centralized storage, memory, processing, and bandwidth, offers much higher efficiency. Software, resources, and information can be shared or exchanged on demand. Thus, it can be said that the future will see the supremacy of cloud-based computing.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is internet-based computing. With internet-based applications, files can be accessed from any computer using the internet, without installing the applications themselves. This makes it possible to conduct all sorts of activities on the web. In this scenario, every user can be considered a client. In recent years, the foundation of cloud computing has become very solid. Since cloud computing is a cost-effective technology, its demand has been increasing steadily.

Recent Activities by Tech Companies

Now, software giant Microsoft is turning its attention to cloud computing. Around 70 percent of Microsoft’s employees are focused primarily on cloud-related projects, and within a year, that is expected to reach 90 percent. Notably, Microsoft earns most of its revenue from computer software. As internet usage grows rapidly, tech companies are increasingly developing such software and services. For example, popular programs like Word and PowerPoint now have online versions. According to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, smart devices are driving cloud technology. He remarked that the new Windows 7 series of mobile operating systems is designed with this very idea in mind. Recently, a cloud computing-based operating system was launched in India, an initiative undertaken by Microsoft itself. As a result, computer users can now launch their computers using a web-based operating system. Microsoft has named this operating system ‘Windows Azure.’ Regarding this, Microsoft India’s Managing Director Rajan Anandan said, “We are developing all our popular products to be cloud computing-based. This will allow users to run any application from any location.”

Mobile Computing
What direction is computer evolution taking? The desktop computer has undergone massive changes. Sleek LCD monitors have replaced CRT monitors. Gradually, computing is moving away from desktop computers. The demand for notebooks and laptops is rising. It has been observed that Apple Corporation has been able to sell more tablet PCs than desktop PCs. Users are now looking toward lightweight, compact computing devices. There seems to be a fascination with these attractive devices. They feel comfortable working in this environment.

Smartphones

Smartphone users now enjoy computing capabilities. New technologies are continually being incorporated. On May 4, 2010, Intel announced that after a long wait, they are releasing the Atom chip for smartphones and tablet computers. This is part of the Atom Z6 processor series. Intel refers to it as a processor for smartphones. Atom chips were originally designed for notebook computers, but this announcement signals even more change in the tech world. There’s more good news for cellphone users: typically, to watch 3D movies or play 3D games, special 3D glasses are required. But this is about to change. Now, this technology will not require 3D glasses. In the same way that black-and-white TVs gradually transitioned to color, LCD screens will eventually integrate 3D technology. In this progression, 3D touchscreen technology will be added to mobile phone screens. As a result, users will be able to watch 3D movies and play 3D games on their cellphones.

Tablet PCs

A tablet PC now fully supports the functions of a laptop PC. It comes with touchscreen capability and a stylish design. There is a Windows XP edition for tablet PCs. More technology is expected to be incorporated into these PCs in the future.
Significant progress has been made in mobile voice communications, but data communication in mobile devices is also crucial. At present, there is a concerted effort to make these communications even more technology-friendly. Further changes are coming to mobile computing, with radical transformations expected in both devices and applications.

The Car Technology of Tomorrow

Tomorrow’s cars will be equipped with even more advanced technologies. These vehicles will be smart. They will feature fuel-efficient technology integration. Each car will be able to communicate with others. Cars will also maintain communication with roads and traffic signals. With the help of sensors, they will receive weather information. Computing capabilities will further enhance the effectiveness of these cars. They will be accident-free, as automatic systems will protect them from crashes.

Technology has brought prosperity and well-being to humanity. Therefore, technological changes continue to take place with human needs in mind. New technologies are emerging. The world around us is changing under the influence of these new advancements. In every field and environment, they add a unique dimension to modern life. The ongoing changes will continue, bringing even greater transformation in the days ahead. Tech companies are already preparing for this. Artificial intelligence is set to be integrated into computing, and computer processor speeds will increase several-fold. We will witness major changes in human lifestyles.
