Several important factors should be carefully considered before submitting a research article to a journal, because selecting the right journal increases your chances of publication. For this reason, researchers should ask themselves three key questions prior to article submission:
First, Scope: To what type of journal should I submit my article? Every journal has its own focus, so be sure to check their criteria and expectations before submitting. Submitting to the right journal increases the acceptance rate.
Second, Impact: Am I setting my goals too high? Publishing in a high-impact factor journal brings more recognition to your research, but these journals also have higher rejection rates. Therefore, it’s often better to choose a quality but relatively less competitive journal, where the acceptance rate is higher.
Third, Speed: Is fast publication important? If you need your article published quickly, select journals that have a fast review process and publication timeline—without compromising on quality.
