Create a Bangla Website Easily

Even though creating a website in Bangla isn’t very difficult in this era of artificial intelligence, many people still visit this post from 2006, so I’m keeping it in the archive. I have updated the format a bit.

I had been thinking for a long time about writing a tutorial on how to easily create a website in Bangla. But due to professional commitments, I couldn’t manage it. Today, Mozammel Hossain Toha from Libya requested something similar. So, without procrastinating further, I wrote this tutorial. I hope readers will feel encouraged to create their own Bangla websites.

How to Create Your Own Webpage?

There are several websites on the internet where you can create a free website. In 2006, Google launched an easy webpage creation system known as Google Sites. Besides this, there are many other sites where you can make a website for free. However, many free sites display a lot of advertisements, and those are often so colorful that they make reading difficult. Google, on the other hand, has no ads. I have personally used the Google Sites system and was impressed by its features. So, I will now describe the simple steps to create a website through Google.

About Google Sites

Google Sites is a free tool provided by Google that allows you to easily create web pages. It is integrated with other Google services, such as Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar, so you can quickly add various content and features.

Some of the main advantages of using Google Sites:

1. Ease of Use: Google Sites has a simple and user-friendly interface, so even non-programmers can easily create web pages.
2. Customization: You can design your webpage as you like using various templates and layouts.
3. Integration: Easy integration with other Google tools and services.
4. Cloud Storage: Your files and documents can be stored through Google Drive.
5. Free: Using Google Sites is completely free, you just need a Google account.

However, the free version of Google Sites may have some limitations, such as storage space and using a custom domain. But for general websites or project sites, this is an excellent and practical tool.

Webpage

Our websites are written in a special type of computer language or code called html, but in the case of Google, you can easily create your webpage without any knowledge of html. However, for those who are interested, I would recommend learning it, as it helps a lot when you want to make minor changes.

About HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is a fundamental web programming language used to define the structure of web pages. It is a tag-based language where various tags are used to add text, images, links, and other elements. Each tag has its own function that instructs the web browser on how to display the page’s elements. Using HTML, one can easily create web pages, and it works together with other web technologies like CSS and JavaScript to ensure advanced structure and functionality for websites.

How to Build a Website?

First, open the following page in your web browser: https://sites.google.com/ and log in with your Gmail account. Note that Google’s system is so popular that sometimes it doesn’t allow new users to log in. At first, I tried and failed, which made me a bit frustrated. After 4–5 minutes, I tried again and was able to log in. So don’t get disheartened; try again after a while if you face issues.

After logging in, you’ll see several templates that will help you decide what kind of website you want to create.

What is a Website Template?

A website template is a pre-designed layout and structure that makes the website creation process easy and quick. It acts as a framework containing specific HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. Users can quickly make web pages using these templates—just by adding their own content (such as text, images, or videos).

The main benefits of website templates are:

1. Time-saving: With templates, there’s no need to design from scratch, so website building takes less time.
2. Easy to use: Even non-programmers can easily create websites with templates.
3. Professional look: Templates are usually created by professional designers, making your website look attractive and professional.
4. Customization: Templates can generally be customized, so users can change the design according to their preferences and needs.

In this way, website templates make the website-building process more effective and easier.

Next, write the content or text for your site. In Google’s system, you can type directly whatever you want to write for your website.

What is Website Content?

Website content is all the information and elements presented on a website. This can come in various forms, such as text, photos, videos, audio, graphics, and documents. Content is the main attraction of a website and provides information for users.

The key elements of website content are:

1. Text: Articles, blog posts, news, product descriptions, and other written materials that deliver the website’s information and purpose.
2. Images: Photos and graphics that make the website more appealing and lively.
3. Video: Video content such as tutorials, promotional videos, webinars, etc., providing information in visual and audio form.
4. Audio: Podcasts, music, and other audio files that provide a listening experience for users.
5. Documents: PDFs, Word files, and other documents that users can download.

Publish:

Once your content is added, click the “publish” button and your website will go live instantly. You will receive the webpage’s address or URL.

What is a URL?

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is a web address that indicates the location of a particular website or webpage on the internet. It is in string or text format, and users can access a specific web page by typing it into an internet browser.

Structure of a URL:

1. Protocol: The first part of a URL is the protocol, such as HTTP or HTTPS, which tells the web browser how to communicate with the server. For example, http:// or https://.
2. Domain Name: After the protocol comes the domain name, which indicates the main address of the website. For example, www.example.com.

With Google’s system, you will get a web address like https://sites.google.com/view/(your chosen name).

The page where your website starts is called the frontpage or index page. On the first page, you can simply type anything directly as you wish. If you don’t want to publish it yet and just want to save it, simply click the “save now” button. Share your new address with your friends.

How Much Can You Store?

Currently, if you create a website through this system, it will use your Google Drive space. Usually, Google gives 15 GB of free Drive space to users. If you just post stories, diaries, and some photos, it will take 10–15 years of regular writing to fill it up.

How to Write in Bangla?

By creating a web page on Google this way, you can directly write in Bangla for your website. Use Unicode for Bangla typing. You can use Shabdik, Avro, or Ekushey Shadhinota for Bangla typing. For details, read the article How to Write Bangla in Unicode published on Biggani.org.

Changing the Design:

If you want to change the template after publishing a page, you can easily do so—changing its layout and color with a new template. The Google Sites system offers a range of templates to choose from. An advantage of Google Sites is that once you create a webpage, you can very easily change its colors and layout. Additionally, on the left or right, you will find buttons for changing font color and size. Use these to adjust your font’s color as you like.

File Upload

If you want to keep any files (such as Microsoft Word or PDF files) on your website, click the “upload” button and upload the file from your computer to Google’s website. If you want to add a link to the file, click the link button on that page to add a link.

Difference Between Blog and Webpage

A blog is like an online diary or journal where you can regularly write your thoughts. A webpage is generally an information-rich section. If you want to regularly share updates with your readers, use a blog. If you want to write about something specific, create a webpage. For blogs, you can use www.blogger.com, which is another system from Google. With Blogger as well, you can type directly in Bangla.

In Conclusion

Although there is a lot of online content in English, there is very little in our beloved Bangla language. So, we must take the initiative to enrich the storehouse of Bangla language online. By using Bangla Unicode, your webpage will be created as a standard. Your website can even be searched using Google, Yahoo, or any other search engine. Suppose you write about your experiences with mango cultivation on your website—those interested in working with mango cultivation can easily find your site through search engines and benefit from your writing.

Not just for ourselves, but for the next generations as well, we need to enrich Bangla on computers and expand the store of information in Bangla. Everyone has some experience or knowledge in life, which should be shared with all.
