Reading a lot of research papers is essential to excel in research. However, often when you want to read or download an article that isn’t Open Access, you are asked to pay. For a student or researcher, buying so many articles is quite challenging. So how can you download paid (subscription) articles for free? Today, I will discuss some websites where you can download paid articles for free, that is, without any payment.
Sci-Hub
Sci-Hub is one of the most controversial projects in modern science. Most articles published between 1980 and 2020 can be downloaded for free from the Sci-Hub website. The domain of Sci-Hub may vary from time to time and from country to country, such as: sci-hub (.st, .se, .ren, .do, .ee), etc. First, obtain the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number or the title of the research paper you wish to download. Then, go to the Sci-Hub website in your browser. Once you enter the website, you will see a search box. Paste your collected DOI number or the title there. After pasting the DOI, click on the “Open” or search button. Within a few moments, you will get your desired article. From there, you can download the PDF file. However, keep in mind that you may not be able to download many recently published articles through Sci-Hub. There is also debate about how ethical it is to use this website, so use it with caution.
Science Hub Mutual Aid Community
For recently published articles or those that can’t be downloaded by any means, Science Hub Mutual Aid Community (www.wosonhj.com) can be a last resort. By signing up and logging in to this site at least once daily, you receive 10 points each day. Using these points, you can get paid articles for free. To do this, go to the website, enter any article’s DOI in the “post for help” section, and click on the “Quick Search” option. You will then see detailed information about that article. If you verify the details and everything is correct, click on the “New Reward” option and, within 4-5 minutes, someone will send the article to the email address you signed up with.
Telegram
Using the Telegram app (https://telegram.org/), you can download research papers via the @nexux_search_brian_bot. First, open the Telegram app and join @nexux_search_brian_bot. Then, copy the DOI of the article you want to download and paste it into the bot. After a while, the bot will display the PDF file for you, which you can then download.
Additionally, you can download many articles from the Zlibrary (https://z-lib.id/) website as well. If you can’t find your desired article using any of the above methods, you can also email the author for a copy by going to ResearchGate (https://www.researchgate.net/) or directly through the respective journal’s site.
