These days, a common question from many students interested in pursuing higher education abroad is: What should I do after finishing my degree overseas? Will I get a job? Will I have to return home after my studies?
The uncertainty and hesitation behind these questions is perfectly natural. But to find the answers, you must first understand why you want to study abroad. If your main goal is simply to get a visa or earn money by working, then studying is not truly your priority. Many people think that they can continue their studies while working, but in reality, work often becomes the main focus, and gradually, studies lose their importance.
Those who go abroad for higher education with genuine interest and dedication, who value lab work and research, usually find success. Research is not easy, but if you find it tedious or think your supervisor doesn’t know anything, then the real problem starts. Many come on student visas just to earn money, spending most of their time working, and studies become secondary. With such an attitude, it’s hard to avoid disappointment even after earning the degree.
In my own experience, I have yet to see anyone who, through merit, honesty, and hard work, could not achieve something good after completing higher education. If you have heard otherwise, perhaps you’ve only heard one side of the story. If your goal is to do real research, avoid those on social media who only share stories of frustration. Often, these people tell such stories to cover up their own failures. Always think positively and focus on your own development. Stay away from pessimistic people, because they try to spread their own disappointment to others.
Many people think in advance about which country has the most work opportunities for student visa holders. This is certainly an important aspect, but if it is your sole purpose, then it’s no longer about education. If your research is of good quality and you are sincerely eager to learn, you can create a place for yourself on the international stage no matter where you study. It’s not the country, but your quality that determines your future.
Remember, higher education is not just about getting a certificate. It is an opportunity to develop yourself, to improve your skills, and to prove your worth on an international level.
