At Biggani.org, besides interviewing scientists, we also interview science writers. One of the main reasons for this is that these science writers present complex scientific concepts in simple, accessible language to young people in Bengali, their mother tongue. Their role in popularizing science is significant. Continuing our series of interviews with science writers, today we have interviewed Sujoy Kumar Das.

The Upbringing of Sujoy Kumar Das:

Sujoy Kumar Das’s story is that of a talented young man from the small village of Bitghar in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria. Raised in the peaceful village environment, Sujoy is now an undergraduate student in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Jagannath University. His extraordinary talent, perseverance, and deep love for scientific pursuits have established him as one of the young generation’s science writers in Bangladesh. His life story serves as an inspiration for the new generation.

Sujoy began his education at his village school, Bitghar Radhanath High School in Brahmanbaria. From a young age, he was extremely curious and eager to acquire knowledge. Alongside his studies at school, he had a deep interest in reading books. Together with his friends, he formed a reading circle in the village. This reading circle was a unique initiative where they read books by complex and philosophical authors like Karl Marx. Through this group, his thinking and analytical abilities improved.

After getting admitted to Jagannath University, a new chapter began in Sujoy’s life. There, he started studying biochemistry and molecular biology and developed a love for science. Alongside his university studies, he began writing for various blogs and newspapers. His main focus was to present science in a simple and comprehensible way to everyday people.

The Journey in Blogging and Writing

The path to science writing was not easy for Sujoy Kumar Das. He initially joined the Science Blog, where he faced the challenge of writing about scientific topics in an accessible and effective way. Gradually, he became skilled in writing and began serving as the executive editor of the Science Blog.

While managing the blog, he regularly edited the writings of other authors. His ability to simplify and present complex scientific topics is evident in his work. Alongside his work on the Science Blog, he frequently publishes science articles in leading newspapers like Dainik Bangla, Kaler Kantho, and Biggan Chinta.

Research and the Red-Green Research Center

Currently, Sujoy Kumar Das is involved in research at the Red-Green Research Center. Here, he is working on two important research projects. The main topics of his research are tuberculosis and arsenic contamination. These two issues are extremely important for developing countries like Bangladesh. His research on tuberculosis prevention and the effects of arsenic contamination will play an important role in public health in the future.

Alongside his research, Sujoy is writing scientific literature and working to make science more accessible to the public. He believes that research should not be confined to the laboratory; it is equally important to communicate it to the general public. With this perspective, he is actively working to develop science communication and literature.

Inspiration from Arafat Bhai

Sujoy’s mentor, Arafat Bhai, has played a special role in his life and work. Rifat Bhai helped him develop a deep passion for research and writing. According to Sujoy, a good mentor not only shows you the way but also encourages and motivates you to move forward in difficult times.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, Sujoy Kumar Das aims to establish a strong foundation in scientific literature and communication. He wants to make science more understandable for the general public. Sujoy believes scientific research and science writing can progress side by side. Improving his science communication skills is a significant part of his future plans.
