Dr. Rafiqul Islam, one of the inventors of Oral Saline (ORS) that has saved the lives of millions of children worldwide, has passed away. The British medical journal ‘The Lancet’ has described ORS as the most important contribution to medical science in the twentieth century. We pay our deepest respects to the memory of this national hero. Deep love for humanity is the source of all innovation. We need many more Rafiqul Islams who can truly love people.
This brilliant star of Bangladesh’s medical sphere was a mentor to all doctors of this generation. He was a valiant freedom fighter; not just as a doctor, but also as an armed participant in the Liberation War in the Munshiganj (Bikrampur) region. Rafiqul Islam Sir, a graduate of Dhaka Medical College, was associated with Hamdard in his later years and often introduced himself as a Hakim. May your eternal journey towards infinity be blessed. Your sacred memory will remain forever untarnished in the history of the world.
