On behalf of Biggani.org, we spoke with Naureen Hoque, who is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), USA. Her research in wireless security is opening up new horizons by enhancing secure wireless communication through artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and quantum technologies.
An Innovative Researcher and Educator
In addition to her research, Naureen Hoque works as a course instructor in the RIT Department of Cybersecurity. On her journey to completing her Ph.D. on a scholarship, she has been conducting outstanding work in the security of wireless technologies.
Core Focus of Research: Ensuring Wireless Security
Wi-Fi and cellular networks have become indispensable in our daily lives. The central aim of Dr. Hoque’s research is to find ways to keep these technologies secure.
She explains simply:
“Since wireless data transmission is open, anyone can sniff the data. By using machine learning to analyze that data, they can try to determine personal information or the type of device being used. To prevent this, I have developed an AI-driven approach that confuses attackers, making it impossible for them to gather information.”
Her research protects wireless signals and safeguards user privacy. This aspect of her research has been published at INFOCOM (IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications), marking a major achievement for her.

According to Naureen, a few qualities are crucial for a scientist’s success:

She further adds:
“In fields like cybersecurity, thinking from both the attacker and defender perspectives is crucial. By putting yourself in the attacker’s place, you can more easily come up with effective defense strategies.”

Naureen believes that the potential of young people in Bangladesh is limitless. She says:
