Ethics and Realities of AI Use in Academia!
Using AI in academic writing is not scientific plagiarism. Rather, it is a modern method of completing work quickly and efficiently with the help of technology.
For example, if you use Excel to analyze thousands of data points and create graphs, or perform statistical analysis with SPSS, R, or Python, is that considered plagiarism?
No. In fact, it is about enhancing productivity by utilizing technology.
Similarly, AI is an assistive technology. However, it should be used correctly.
In today’s competitive academic sphere, simply producing high-quality writing is not enough. Presenting your work in a way that sets it apart from others is equally important.
You may use AI to create academic content (thesis, research papers) if you wish. The condition is to use it smartly and ethically (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BEUT2iqTe/).
First, write your content yourself and ask AI how it can be improved. Or, give AI your title and ask it to create a new draft, then compare it with your own writing. This way, you gain new ideas, sentence structures, and vocabulary that will enhance the quality of your writing.
The Reality of AI Detector Software
AI content detection software is still not highly reliable. These programs struggle to keep up with rapidly evolving Large Language Models. As a result, many universities and journals are already reducing their reliance on AI detection.
In reality, these detectors sometimes label 100% human-written text as AI-generated.
For example: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CJdUpKMs9/.
This proves that the technology is still not entirely reliable yet.
However, this does not mean you can blindly copy-paste AI-generated text!
Experienced reviewers can easily recognize, from writing patterns, if something was created by AI.
Some Important Tips for Using AI:
1. Instead of copy-pasting AI-generated text, rewrite it in your own words. AI content carries a kind of electronic fingerprint that may be detected.
2. AI typically creates content based on model text. If necessary, change the structure, swap examples, and add new information or references.
3. Change sentence structures and the format of your writing.
4. If needed, you can use an AI Humanizer or paraphrasing tool. For example: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BEkNKjd6h/
5. Use multiple AI tools to create different drafts of the same content. This will help you come up with fresh ideas.
Let AI be your research and writing assistant, not your replacement.
Don’t use it blindly—use AI smartly.
