For young science enthusiasts, research-minded students, and those interested in higher education in Bangladesh, biggani.org is organizing a special online interview and seminar featuring one of the world’s leading solar technology researchers — Associate Professor Dr. Shahiduzzaman Sohel from Kanazawa University, Japan. His outstanding research on modern solar energy, nanomaterials, and renewable energy technology is now highly recognized internationally.
An Inspirational Journey in Science
This son of Bangladesh, born in 1984, set off for Japan in 2010 with dreams of higher education. Through perseverance, dedication to research, and tireless effort, he has joined the ranks of the world’s top researchers. He earned his master’s from JAIST in 2013 and completed his PhD at Kanazawa University in 2016 under the MEXT scholarship — specializing in advanced Perovskite Solar Cell (PSC) technology. This modern solar technology uses a special crystalline structure known as ‘perovskite’ which converts sunlight to electricity with remarkably high efficiency. Compared to conventional solar panels, PSCs are lighter, cheaper, and hold huge potential for making solar energy even more affordable and accessible in the future.

Because of his outstanding research skills, he quickly drew the attention of the international scientific community. After completing his postdoc at Kanazawa University, he joined as an Assistant Professor in 2018, and on May 1, 2025, he was promoted to Tenured Associate Professor — a major milestone in a researcher’s career. For his research, he received the Best Young Researcher Encouragement Award from Kanazawa University in 2023.
Global Recognition in Research: A Pride for Bangladesh
Dr. Sohel’s research is so influential globally that Stanford University and Elsevier have listed him among the world’s Top 2% Scientists for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025). Such honor in solar technology research is extraordinary and a matter of particular pride for Bangladesh.
His research includes—
- Over 120 international journal articles (total impact factor 650+)
- 3,000+ citations,
- H-index: 32,
- 15+ patents,
- 50+ keynote lectures,
- 60+ conference presentations.
Particularly, ionic liquid-aided perovskite technology, roll-to-roll scalable solar modules, and Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) are some of his most significant research innovations. These cutting-edge technologies could transform the future of the solar industry and play a tremendous role in reducing the world’s dependency on carbon.
Why Is This Event Important for Bangladeshi Students?
Bangladeshi youth are eager to advance in research today. But where should they start, what qualifications are needed, and what opportunities are available in which countries — answers to these questions are rarely found easily. This event will provide those answers directly.
In this session, students will learn—
1. Practical Guidance for Higher Education
How to secure research opportunities in Japan, Europe, Canada, or other countries, what preparations are required, and which fields offer Bangladeshi students the greatest potential — all these will be discussed based on Dr. Sohel’s real-life experience.
2. Inspiration for a Research Career
His journey from the son of a poor family to being among the world’s top 2% scientists is a unique inspiration for students.
3. Understanding the Future of Renewable Energy
Scientific and practical knowledge about Future Energy, Green Technology, and Climate Solutions will open new horizons for students in their future research thinking.
4. Firsthand Experience of International Research Networks
His collaborative work with researchers from institutions in Canada, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United States, and others will also serve as a guide for future collaborations.
What Will Students Gain by Joining This Event?
- A clear roadmap for preparing higher study applications
- Strategies for discovering one’s own research interest
- Ways to connect with international researchers
- In-depth understanding of future renewable energy technologies
- Motivation — The confidence that “I can do it too”
This event serves as a bridge, connecting the research dreams of Bangladeshi youth with international standards.
