Mahbubul Haq Bhuiyan is a shining name in Bangladesh’s technology and research sphere. Currently, he serves as a lecturer in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department at Southeast University. But his work extends far beyond teaching; he is also a soft skills trainer, researcher, and a key member of various professional organizations.

He has worked as an adjunct lecturer in the CSE departments at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and at Southeast University. In addition, he is a board member and fellow of the Society for Leadership Skills Development (SLSD), a lifetime member of the Bangladesh Organization for Learning and Development (BOLD), and for the past two years, has been actively involved with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Steps in the World of Research

Mahbubul Haq Bhuiyan’s primary research areas are artificial intelligence (AI), especially machine learning, deep learning, big data, and cybersecurity. His work mainly involves implementing custom machine learning/deep learning models in cybersecurity, accent classification, stock market price prediction, and many other fields. His research scope is extensive and internationally recognized.

He has already published two Q1 journal articles, and several more research papers are currently under review. Additionally, from 2023 to 2025, he has published several significant papers at Core C and B-ranked IEEE conferences. He is now serving as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member and reviewer for the IEEE 4th International Conference on Computing and Machine Intelligence (ICMI 2025), to be held at Central Michigan University in the USA. Previously, he worked as a reviewer for the IEEE TENCON 2023 conference, one of the flagship conferences of IEEE Region 10, held in Thailand.

Research Outcomes and Real-life Application

Mahbubul Haq Bhuiyan’s research is not confined to the academic realm; one of his key goals is to ensure its practical application in real life.

He is currently involved in the implementation phase of the “PaltaQ” (Palta Question) web application, which is being integrated into various undergraduate courses at Southeast University to enhance student learning experience and participation.

Core Functionality of PaltaQ:

  • It uses Meta’s Llama model to help students improve their questioning skills.
  • It classifies questions using Bloom’s Taxonomy, encouraging students to engage in deeper critical thinking.
  • Students can write questions on specific topics and, instead of writing answers, can ask counter-questions on others’ questions.
  • It works much like Twitter (now X), where students can post questions in a tweet-like format.
  • All users can view the questions, give likes or dislikes, and ask counter-questions instead of providing direct answers.
  • As a result, students develop the habit of asking questions, which will play a vital role in solving complex engineering problems in the future.
This project is supervised by Southeast University’s honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam.

Additionally, he is involved in solar intensity determination and future prediction research, where he is analyzing weather and climate changes over the next 15-20 years to assess the potential for solar energy in Bangladesh. Through this, he aims to recommend the right types of solar panels for the appropriate locations. This project is supervised by Southeast University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain.

Special Research Experiences

On his research path, Mahbubul Haq Bhuiyan has faced many challenges and achieved significant successes.

In 2024, one of his research papers was accepted at the VTC 2024-Spring Conference, one of the world’s most renowned conferences, especially in the field of vehicular technology. At this conference, he was the only Bangladeshi researcher, which was an extraordinary experience for him.

“On the second day of the conference, I was having discussions with researchers from Samsung, Harvard University, and San Francisco. They called me ‘Dr. Mahbub’. I humbly said that I haven’t enrolled in a PhD yet—I just finished my master’s. They were surprised and told me, ‘You are already academically very strong, and your research is truly commendable.’”

This incident further inspired him, and he believes—”If someone is truly dedicated, the world will surely support them. Never let anyone discourage you from doing what you love.”

Essential Qualities of a Scientist

The most important quality for a scientist is to remain a lifelong learner. The world of science is constantly witnessing new innovations and technologies, so a scientist must always be eager and dedicated to acquiring new knowledge.

Secondly, problem-solving skills are crucial. The task of a scientist is not just to ponder theories but to analyze real-life problems, break them into small steps, and find effective solutions.

Lastly, communication skills are extremely important for a scientist. Connecting with other scientists and participating in collaborative research helps a researcher further develop their knowledge and skills. Mutual cooperation and exchange of ideas are essential for research progress. Good communication skills help a scientist to advance in innovative research.

Advice for Young Students in Bangladesh

My first advice for young students in Bangladesh is to build a strong foundation in the basics. If someone has a good grasp of fundamentals and is dedicated to research, no one can stop them from engaging in innovative research.

Secondly, develop the mindset to adapt to different situations. In the research world, having papers rejected by conferences and journals is normal. Instead of fearing rejection, use it as an opportunity to improve. My first research paper was rejected three times, but after improvements, I was able to publish it in an even better conference. So, turn rejection into strength.

Thirdly, never hesitate to seek advice from teachers if you’re interested in research. I believe that if someone shows genuine interest in learning, no teacher will refuse to help them.

Finally, learn the “art” of writing research papers. This is an essential skill, and once you master it, progressing in the research journey becomes much easier.
