Current Workplace or Organization:
Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan
First, let’s get to know about him
He is currently working in Tokyo, Japan as Lead AI Engineer at an AI startup called Hiperdyne Corp. Alongside his job, he is also pursuing PhD research at the Department of Information Science at Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Nara, Japan.
He graduated in 2017 from BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Afterwards, through campus recruitment, he received an opportunity to work at his current company, moved to Japan, and began his professional career.
During his undergraduate studies, he developed an interest in robotics and participated in several national and international competitions. In 2015, he became the champion at the International Autonomous Robotics Challenge (IARC) held at IIT Kanpur, India.
He is a co-founder of the BUET Robotics Society and organized the country’s largest robotics competition. From his university days, he has been passionate about robotics and AI, which led him from a background in mechanical engineering to work and research in artificial intelligence.
Research Topic
The goal of his research is to effectively diagnose diseases by enhancing the quality of medical images (pathological images such as endoscopy) using artificial intelligence (AI).
Benefits of the Research
His research will help improve accuracy in disease diagnosis in the future. Some of the benefits include:
- Enhancement of medical image quality: Pathological examination is a vital step in treatment and accurate disease detection. However, these tests are often critical and depend heavily on the examiner’s expertise. Sometimes, it’s not possible to obtain high-quality images or videos, which creates obstacles to accurate diagnosis. Using AI, the quality of such images can be improved, for example, through super resolution.
- Accurate disease diagnosis: Sometimes, due to human error, accurate diagnosis is not possible, which may later lead to the spread of deadly diseases like cancer or others. However, with AI, accurate diagnosis can be achieved.
Qualities of a Scientist
According to him, some essential qualities of a scientist are:
- Perseverance: Success in research doesn’t always come easily, so perseverance is required.
- Curiosity: It’s important to be eager to learn new things and have curiosity about how things work.
- Keeping up with technology: Technology is evolving very quickly, so you must keep up with it.
- Proper documentation and presentation skills: You must improve your ability to accurately record and present research findings.
His Message for Young Students in Bangladesh
- Nowadays, many universities in Bangladesh are conducting research at the undergraduate level—you should get involved in these research activities.
- Many Bangladeshi researchers are conducting group research abroad on their own initiative, where you can participate and benefit from both publication and networking.
- You should develop an interest in new technologies.
- Gain proficiency in at least one programming language.
