Artificial Intelligence Will Defend Against Cyber Attacks

Artificial intelligence is a remarkable technology. There is a lot of discussion about its pros and cons. Both Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have strongly emphasized the need for caution in using artificial intelligence. Despite all warnings, various experiments are being conducted in fields such as banking and healthcare to test its applications. However, there is an emerging body of work focused on how artificial intelligence can be used to strengthen cyber defenses and improve internet security.

KAGGLE is organizing a competition where this artificial intelligence will be developed specifically to prevent cyber attacks. In this project, Google’s artificial intelligence technology “Google Brain” is involved. Ian Goodfellow of Google Brain states that by using new types of machine learning methods, it’s possible to achieve better results in preventing cyber attacks. Typically, different types of logic are used to fend off cyber threats. However, since these logics are not adapted as needed, hackers often find ways to bypass them. Hackers attack servers in various ways to figure out which logic the system is using to defend itself. Then, they identify the weak points in that logic and exploit those vulnerabilities to launch cyber attacks. But with artificial intelligence, it will be possible to determine whether something is a cyber attack or not as situations evolve. For hackers, it will be much harder to bypass the defenses of an artificial intelligence–powered system and successfully launch an attack.
