Amid the hustle and bustle of city life, the demands of work, and the complex equations of research, Emdadul Haque is tirelessly working towards the advancement of Bangladesh’s environment and energy sector. Standing at the crossroads of research, data analysis, and policy-making, he dreams of paving a green and sustainable path for the future.

The Journey into Research

Emdadul Haque is currently a Research Associate at the Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Division of the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). At the same time, he is pursuing a Master’s in Engineering Management at Lamar University, USA. His main research areas revolve around environmental policy and planning, where he works on environmental assessments, impact analyses, and natural resource management.

“Every step in our research is important,” says Emdadul. “Our primary goal is to understand the potential impacts on the environment before any development project, find ways to control them, and deliver the right information to decision-makers.”

Rivers, Energy, and Sustainable Development

In Bangladesh’s developing economy, the role of energy, water, and the environment is immense. Emdadul works on various projects in the power and mineral resources sectors, where he is involved with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Initial Environmental Examinations (IEE), Social Impact Assessments (SIA), and the development of Management Information Systems (MIS). He has collaborated with international development organizations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, further enriching his experience.

In particular, renewable energy, gas pipelines, and various types of power plant-related environmental research are significant parts of his work. “Environmentally friendly energy management is not just an alternative anymore; it’s the only sustainable solution for our future,” he says.

Advice for Young People: Learn Software Modeling and AI!

In this era of science and technology, one cannot become a scientist simply by reading books or working in a laboratory—knowing how to use technology properly is crucial. Emdadul believes, “Software modeling and artificial intelligence (AI) are the most powerful tools of our time. My advice to young engineers is to develop skills in software modeling and AI as quickly as possible. These will play an extraordinary role in solving research and real-life problems.”

According to him, conducting research alone is not enough; applying it in real life and delivering the results to decision-making institutions are equally important.

Dreams and Plans for the Future

Emdadul Haque is relentlessly working to further develop himself in the field of research and to contribute to the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s environment. His goal is to make environmental research more effective through advanced information technology and lead Bangladesh towards a future powered by green energy.

“If we harness science and technology properly, Bangladesh will advance much further on its path of development,” he says with confidence.
