His CGPA was 3.02 – yet he’s teaching at California State University!
Lutfor Rahman. A former student of Bogura Cantonment Public School and College. He graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from BUET in 2009. Afterwards, he studied at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at California State University.
Before this, he worked as a researcher at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory! He also worked as a software engineer at Vincari in Birmingham.
Let’s hear the rest of the story in his own words—
“After failing in SSC, I worked really hard at the HSC level. The result was an A+ in HSC and admission to BUET’s Computer Science department. Alhamdulillah. Before I could understand anything, the first term at BUET was over. I got a GPA of 2.94. In the second term, things got even worse. I mostly got C and D grades in most subjects.
I went to my then-supervisor Mohammad Tanvir Parvez sir’s room to collect my results.
Sir took my gradesheet in hand and said—
GPA 2.44! Why is the GPA so bad?
I kept my head down. There was nothing to say. Seeing my condition, sir simply said one thing.
He said, ‘Let’s see you hold your head high next term.’
I said, ‘Yes sir,’ and left with my gradesheet.
Next term, I scored 3.42. From 2.44 to 3.42 in one go. I’m grateful to sir.
My result in the first semester at BUET was 2.93, the second semester was 2.42. My final CGPA was 3.02. Based on CGPA, I ranked 88 out of 125 in my class. That means more than half of the students were in a worse position than me. Even after graduating from BUET with a poor CGPA, I am working as an assistant professor at California State University.”
