This time in our interview series with the younger generation, we have interviewed Ahmed Omar Selim Adnan. He is currently working as a Research Associate at the University of New Haven. He feels most comfortable introducing himself as an AI (Artificial Intelligence) researcher and data scientist. Read his interview below:
First, we’d like to know about you
After graduating with honors in Computer Science and Engineering from North South, I worked as a web developer and data scientist. I also worked as a coding instructor for a while. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s in Data Science in America and working as a Research Assistant.
What is your area of research?
My main interest is in Artificial Intelligence. When I was in my second year of undergrad, I first learned about artificial intelligence, and since then I have been delving into it. I don’t work on any particular topic specifically—whenever I become interested in something, I focus on that area. For example, right now I am working on creating puzzle-themed games using artificial intelligence.
In the future, however, I am interested in working with artificial intelligence in the banking or healthcare sectors.
How does your research benefit us?
Being able to thoroughly read and understand research papers is extremely important for any scientist. English is by no means a measure of one’s intelligence, but since most research papers are in English nowadays, proficiency in English is necessary.
Besides this, you must have a lot of curiosity—it’s impossible to do research without curiosity. There have been many projects I started but had to leave halfway because I couldn’t maintain my curiosity about the topic.
Furthermore, patience is of utmost importance when doing research—in fact, solving real-world problems requires working patiently over a long period.
There is another thing that I personally consider very important—and this is not just for research. For success in life, it’s crucial to lead life with discipline.
Do you have any message for young Bangladeshi students who want to pursue science?
It is very important to become skilled in a specific subject.
Those who are new to research must greatly increase their curiosity and always keep themselves informed about new discoveries.
