🏆 Awarded in the Science Category: Dr. Rezaur Rahman
Dr. Rezaur Rahman is a renowned molecular scientist and entomologist from Bangladesh. He was born in Dhaka in 1944. He earned his MSc from the University of Dhaka in 1965 and went on to earn a PhD in entomology from the Czech Academy of Sciences in 1979. His main area of research was the effects of radiation on insects. From 1966 to 2002, he served as a scientist at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. During this period, he established the Food and Radiation Biology Institute in Savar and conducted fundamental research on fruit flies. Additionally, from 1991 to 2005, he taught at Jahangirnagar University. As a writer, he authored 15 popular science books, including postgraduate-level textbooks, and wrote over a hundred scientific essays. Among his notable books are “From Lizard to Dinosaur,” “Insects,” and “In Search of Life in the Universe.” In 2024, he was honored in the Science category of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024. His wife is Halima Khatun, and they have two daughters, Nilanjana and Manjulika.
His role in promoting science and science writing is unparalleled. He was not only limited to research; rather, through his science textbooks, popular science, and books on entomology, he has spread scientific awareness among the general public. As a writer, he authored 15 popular science books, including postgraduate-level textbooks, and wrote over a hundred scientific essays. 🎤 Award Ceremony
On February 1, 2024, during the inaugural ceremony of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024, the Bangla Academy presented the award. The award was presented by the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus. Prominent writers, researchers, and scientists from across the country were present at the event.
