The Journey into Research
Emdadul Haque is currently a Research Associate in the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division at the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). At the same time, he is pursuing a Master’s in Engineering Management at Lamar University, USA. His primary research focus is on environmental policy and planning, where he works on environmental assessment, impact analysis, and natural resource management.
“Every step of our research is important,” says Emdadul. “Our main goal is to understand the potential environmental impacts of any development project beforehand, find ways to manage them, and provide accurate information to decision-makers.”
Rivers, Energy, and Sustainable Development
The roles of energy, water, and the environment are immense in Bangladesh’s developing economy. Emdadul is engaged in various projects in the power and mineral resources sector, where he is involved in environmental impact assessment (EIA), initial environmental examination (IEE), social impact analysis (SIA), and the development of management information systems (MIS). He has worked with various international development organizations, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, which has further enriched his experience.
In particular, environmental research on renewable energy, gas pipelines, and various types of power plants forms a significant part of his studies. “Environmentally friendly energy management is no longer just an option; it is the only sustainable solution for our future,” he says.
Advice for Youth: Learn Software Modeling & AI!
In this era of science and technology, being a scientist requires more than just reading books or working in a laboratory—knowing how to use technology effectively is essential. Emdadul believes, “Software modeling and artificial intelligence (AI) are the most powerful tools of this era. My advice to young engineers is to become skilled in software modeling and AI as soon as possible. These will play an outstanding role in solving research and real-life problems.”
According to him, it is not enough to just conduct research; applying it in real life and reaching decision-making institutions is equally important.
Dreams and Plans for the Future
Emdadul Haque is relentlessly working to further improve himself in the field of research and to contribute to Bangladesh’s environmental sustainability. His goal is to make environmental research more effective through advanced information technology and to help lead Bangladesh towards clean energy.
“If we make proper use of science and technology, Bangladesh will advance much further on the path of development,” he says with confidence.
