An international Bangladeshi scientist—Dr. Mubinur Rahman, currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oulu, is joining Scientist Org’s online interview. For anyone who wants to build a future in biochemistry, biotechnology, medicine, drug discovery, or structural biology—this may be a highly insightful session.

🎯 Why is this interview important for students?

Many students feel intimidated when they hear the word “research.” But research isn’t just about complicated lab equipment—it’s about asking questions, identifying problems, and finding scientific solutions.

Dr. Mubinur Rahman is working in a research field directly involved with the process of collagen formation in the human body, protein structure analysis, and drug discovery.

He is currently researching a crucial human enzyme — Collagen Prolyl 4-Hydroxylase (C-P4H) — whose function controls excessive collagen accumulation (which can lead to various diseases).

What is the goal of this research?

👉 Developing drugs using small molecules that can block the action of specific protein domains.

That is, from understanding the fundamentals of protein structure to discovering potential medicines of the future—he is building this entire journey with his own hands.

🧬 Research fields he is working on

In this interview, students will learn directly about—

  • Structural Biology — How the three-dimensional structure of proteins is determined
  • X-ray Crystallography — Powerful method for analyzing protein structures
  • Metalloenzymes — Function of metal ion-dependent enzymes
  • Protein Engineering — Creating new functions by modifying protein structures
  • Unnatural Amino Acids Incorporation — Incorporating synthetic amino acids into proteins
  • Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) — Analyzing protein-protein interactions
  • Drug Discovery Targeting Protein Domains

He has previously conducted research on:

  • YEATS domain and histone modification (Epigenetics)
  • Iron-sulfur cluster enzymes
  • Bacterial protein structure
  • Biomimetic adhesive protein (Spider silk engineering)

In other words, his work spans from bacteria to human cells.

🌍 International Research Journey

From Khulna University
to Uppsala University (Sweden),
University of Eastern Finland,
Aalto University,
University of Southern Denmark,
and now the University of Oulu —

This extensive academic journey will show students how a dream can reach international research labs.

👩‍🔬 Who should definitely join this session?

✔ Students of biotechnology and genetic engineering
✔ Students of chemistry and biochemistry
✔ Medical and pharmacy students
✔ Those interested in pursuing a PhD abroad
✔ Those seeking a career in lab-based research
✔ Those curious— “How are drugs developed from understanding protein structures?”
