Share

Md. Samiur Rahman completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from North South University, Bangladesh, where he majored in Artificial Intelligence and minored in Mathematics. He later obtained a postgraduate degree in Management from the same university. During his postgraduate studies, he became involved in teaching and research at various institutions. Although his career began as a Lab Instructor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University, he later served as a Lecturer for an extended period at Presidency University and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).

Currently, he is pursuing higher studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology in the United States. His main research areas include Artificial Intelligence, Explainable AI, Privacy-Preserving Deep Learning, Social Computing, and Control Systems. Notably, protecting the privacy of behavioral biometric data is an important part of his research. Alongside academic pursuits, he also serves as a reviewer for several international journals under the Springer Nature Group.

💬 Q&A Session:

Question: First, we would like to know about you.
Answer: I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering (Math minor, AI major) from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University in April 2020. I finished my MBA (Marketing minor, Management major) at the same university in December 2022. In May 2021, I joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University as a Lab Instructor. Before that, I worked as a Management Trainee Officer at CXpress Limited and Capital Logistics for three months.

While pursuing my MBA, I joined Presidency University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering as a Lecturer in May 2021 and managed both jobs simultaneously. I taught there until June 2024, and then joined BUBT as a Lecturer in July 2024. After completing my responsibilities there in December 2024, I moved to the United States on December 31 for higher studies. That’s a brief summary of my journey.

Question: What is your research focus?
Answer: My research interests are quite diverse. They include Explainable Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Social Computing, Control Systems, and Privacy-Preserving Deep Learning.

Question: How is your research benefiting or will benefit us?
Answer: Currently, I am working on the privacy-utility trade-off of behavioral biometric data—such as voice patterns, keystroke dynamics, gait patterns—using diffusion modeling. The aim is to create synthetic behavioral biometric signatures that maintain usability in authentication systems, while preventing re-identification. This reduces the risk of users’ private information being exploited, even if the data is compromised.

Question: Do you have any message for young Bangladeshi students who wish to pursue science?
Answer: For those interested in research, I encourage you to start the habit of reading various research articles and conference papers from now on. This will help you gain insight into current research trends and alleviate any fear of complex topics. You can also expand your knowledge by taking courses on platforms like Coursera, edX, and DataCamp. These platforms often offer free courses or scholarship opportunities.

💬 Interview (Q&A Section):

Question: To begin, we would like to know a bit about you.
Answer: I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering (Math minor, AI major) from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University in April 2020. I completed my MBA (Marketing minor, Management major) at the same institution in December 2022. In May 2021, I joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University as a Lab Instructor. Before that, I worked for three months as a Management Trainee Officer at CXpress Ltd. and Capital Logistics from January to March 2021.

During my MBA, I joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Presidency University as a Lecturer in May 2021, and I worked at both places simultaneously. After teaching at Presidency University until June 2024, I joined BUBT in July 2024 as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. I worked there until 26 December 2024. Finally, on 31 December, I traveled to the United States to pursue higher studies. That is my journey in brief.

Question: What is the focus of your research?
Answer: My research interests are diverse. They include Explainable Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Social Computing, Control Systems, and Privacy-Preserving Deep Learning.

Question: How does your research benefit people now or in the future?
Answer: My current research focuses on the privacy-utility trade-off of behavioral biometric data—such as voice patterns, keystroke dynamics, and gait patterns—using diffusion modeling. The aim is to generate synthetic behavioral biometric signatures that maintain authentication performance while preventing re-identification. This ensures that even if stored data is compromised, the attacker cannot misuse personal biometric patterns to exploit the system.

Question: Do you have any message for young students in Bangladesh who want to pursue science or research?
Answer: I would encourage students interested in research to start reading research papers and conference articles regularly. This helps them understand current research trends and become comfortable with complex topics. They should also explore courses on platforms like Coursera, edX, and DataCamp to expand their knowledge. Many of these platforms offer free enrollments and scholarships for certifications.
