In the 64th episode of Scientist.org’s interview series, this time I spoke with cyber security scientist Dr. Nurul Momen. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden.
Scientist Profile:
After studying at Rajshahi Cadet College, Dr. Nurul Momen earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Technology from the Islamic University of Technology. He then worked as a Network Solution Engineer at the company Huawei. However, driven by a passion for becoming a scientist, he sought opportunities for higher education abroad. Under the EIT Digital Master Program, he completed his master’s degree first at Università di Trento in Italy and then at Technische Universität Berlin in Germany. Afterwards, he earned his doctorate at Karlstad University in Sweden.
Highlights from the interview:
- Alongside his work in science, he was also involved with a startup called Lamudi. He shared his experiences there during the interview.
- He discussed the challenges of cyber security in the interview, especially how the increasing online presence of our digital assets is greatly impacting our modern lifestyles.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked on contact tracing solutions in Europe, ensuring that users’ personal information remained secure.
- He is engaged in various projects related to artificial intelligence. He explained in detail how AI marketplaces could emerge and the challenges they present.
- Diverse models are being developed for AI work. He discussed the question of who is responsible for these models. Various human factors need to be considered in this context.

For those aspiring to become scientists, he shared the following tips:
- Every individual is unique and should utilize their strengths. It is important to accept your own limitations.
- Work hard and stay committed to achieving your goals and objectives.
