
Mohammad Shahab Uddin obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1972. In the same year, he joined the department as a lecturer. In 1974, he received a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue his bachelor’s degree at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). He has taught in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), as well as in the Department of Biotechnology Engineering at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He also worked as a sabbatical faculty member at MIT in Boston, USA, and at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. For the past decade and a half, his research has focused on nano-magnetic particles using surface-functionalized particles for separation and purification of biomolecules, refolding of denatured proteins, chiral (racemic mixture) separation incorporating ionic fluids (IF), and wastewater treatment for heavy metals and industrial dyes. He is currently retired and residing in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
