After spending millions of dollars chasing the dream of halting aging, tech industry mogul and wealthy investor Bryan Johnson has been left disappointed. Following a five-year experiment, he himself admitted that the drug he believed would slow aging actually ended up accelerating signs of aging in his body.

The name of the drug is Rapamycin. While studies with mice showed it could extend lifespan, its effectiveness in humans is now under fresh scrutiny. In a statement on social media, Bryan Johnson revealed that Rapamycin had a negative impact on his metabolism, immune function, and markers of epigenetic aging. As a result, he has decided to stop using the drug.

Johnson’s anti-aging routines are extremely intense. He takes over 50 supplements daily and has even undergone plasma transfusion using his son’s blood in the hope of reversing his biological age. Netflix has produced a documentary about him—“Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever”—showcasing Johnson’s lifestyle and scientific efforts.

Each year, he spends nearly $2 million on this “quest for immortality.” However, his experience with Rapamycin is prompting scientists—especially those working on longevity and aging prevention—to reconsider their approaches.

This incident raises a big question:
Can an agent that works in mice really have the same effect in humans?

Bryan Johnson’s failure reminds us that science is never a straight path. Mistakes, failures, and self-critique are vital steps on the road to new discoveries. The experiences of tech giants like Johnson can serve as valuable lessons for future researchers.
