Recently, neuroscientists and software engineers at the University of Waterloo in Canada have succeeded in creating an artificial brain. Although it doesn’t look exactly like our real brain—instead, it is a model of the brain—it is capable of performing complex tasks just like a human brain, including drawing pictures, doing calculations, and answering questions. This artificial brain contains about 2.5 million artificial neurons or nerves, which function much like those in our own brains. The artificial brain is named Spaun, short for Semantic Pointer Architecture Unified Network. Researchers have connected the brain model to a digital eye of about 800 pixels and a robotic arm. Whatever the brain perceives through its digital eye can be analyzed by the brain, and based on this analysis, it can use the robotic arm to draw pictures. Interestingly, in a general intelligence test, this artificial brain was able to pass. Scientists are truly amazed at its performance. Dr. Mashiur Rahman from Singapore
